VOLUNTEER  ROLES

These notes give a brief outline of possibilities, and are designed to make initial choices easier.  Scroll down for Corporate Events; Kitchen; Games; Gardening; House; Marketing.

Corporate Events.  We hold about 25 of these events through the year, where outside groups rent one green, usually for three hours.  Club volunteers help set up the green (mats, scoreboards, sets of bowls); then we need one volunteer per rink for the first 20 or 30 minutes before leaving groups to enjoy the game. No coaching or demonstration is involved, and no commitment to a set number of sessions. At the end, volunteers tidy up, but the crucial time is at the start - if you can’t manage the full shift let us know, and we can work things out.

Kitchen.  We host several full-day tournaments each year, mostly at weekends but some mid-week.  We serve tea/coffee and offer self-serve light refreshments (cake, fruit, etc).  Volunteering involves being in the kitchen area to serve drinks and keep supplies topped up, and tidying up at the end of the day.  There is no preparation of hot food.  With enough names we can split days into morning and afternoon shifts

Games. Each of our inter-club tournaments (usually at weekends) has an experienced convener, but extra help is needed, either to set up the green early morning or to help with recording scores during the day. Familiarity with spreadsheets is an advantage but is not a requirement.   You don't have to remain on-site for the whole day, but do need to be present at set times for collecting and checking scorecards.  Shifts can be either half-day or whole-day.

Gardening. Our two greens have several borders with various plants and shrubs to be kept tidy.  Our small group of enthusiastic gardeners could always do with help.  We have a range of tools and equipment, but some people prefer to use their own.  This work does not involve fixed or regular times - in general you can choose times to suit your own schedule (and, of course, the weather!).

House.  Our heritage building is in good shape, but it does need some basic maintenance from time to time.  Any practical skills or expertise would be appreciated.  This kind of help would more likely be in response to a specific need or issue rather than a regular commitment.

Marketing.  This title includes all forms of publicity - social media, website, leaflets, banners, etc.  IT expertise could also include our club laptop and TV monitor.  You could choose the area(s) where you feel most comfortable.  Currently we would really welcome help with maintaining a club Instagram account.
